Iren has achieved a significant milestone by delivering its Horizon 1 data center to Microsoft, which will generate approximately $500 million in annual revenue over the next five years. This development marks a turning point for the company, as it aims to reduce its reliance on debt financing. CEO Dan Roberts announced that subsequent Horizon sites 2, 3, and 4 are expected to be operational by the end of the year, potentially increasing Iren's revenue stream further.

The delivery of Horizon 1 comes at a critical time for Iren, as investors have expressed concerns about the company's heavy reliance on debt to fund its data center projects. Iren has raised billions in recent years through corporate bond sales, but the successful launch of Horizon 1 indicates that the company is turning the corner in its financial strategy. With this deal, Iren not only meets a deadline but also demonstrates its capability to convert its artificial intelligence infrastructure into substantial revenue.

The combined revenue from all four Horizon sites is projected to reach $1.94 billion annually over the next five years, although prepayments will reduce this figure to approximately $1.55 billion per year. Still, this revenue is expected to alleviate some of the financial pressures on Iren and lessen its dependency on borrowing. Additionally, Iren has reported $2.8 billion in new customer contracts this past July and raised its 2026 annual recurring revenue target to over $4 billion, underscoring its growth potential.

With the successful rollout of the Horizon data centers and increasing customer contracts, Iren is positioning itself for a more sustainable financial future. As it transitions away from heavy debt financing, the company could enhance its operational flexibility and invest further in its expanding gigawatt pipeline. This shift is crucial not just for Irenโ€™s profitability but also for its ability to meet the growing demand for AI-driven data services in the market.
