OPPO’s Enco X3 earbuds beat Google’s Pixel Buds Pro 2 in a head‑to‑head test published by Android Authority on Tuesday, with the reviewer saying they would choose the OPPO model every time for a single, simple reason: fit. The comparison was done after both products were released earlier this year, with the Pixel Buds Pro 2 debuting in October at $229 and the Enco X3 arriving in June at $99. Both sets claim active noise cancellation and high‑resolution audio, but the reviewer found the OPPO design sat more securely in the ear canal, eliminating the pressure points that can make earbuds feel like a nuisance after a short period.

The comfort issue matters because earbud fatigue has become a key factor in consumer buying decisions. As more people use true‑wireless devices for work calls, video streaming and gaming, manufacturers are racing to improve ergonomics while keeping sound quality high. Google’s latest offering focuses on premium sound, adaptive ANC and a new “speech‑boost” mode, but it retains the same oval‑shaped stem that many users have complained about. OPPO, meanwhile, has refined its ear tip sizing and shape based on extensive user testing, offering three silicone sizes that lock in place without digging into the ear. This shift reflects a broader industry trend where fit is as important as features, especially as earbuds compete with over‑the‑ear headphones for daily wear.

The reviewer noted that the Enco X3’s secure fit translated into better passive isolation, meaning the ANC didn’t have to work as hard to block background noise. In blind listening tests, the OPPO pair delivered comparable bass response and clearer mids, while the Pixel Buds Pro 2 showed a slight edge in treble but suffered from occasional wind noise due to a looser seal. Battery life was similar, with both lasting around five hours of playback plus a case that adds another 20 hours. OPPO’s lower price also gave it a clear value advantage, prompting the reviewer to recommend it for anyone who prioritises comfort over marginal audio tweaks.

Analysts say the verdict could push Google to revisit its earbud design before the next hardware refresh, likely slated for early 2025. OPPO’s success may encourage other Chinese brands to emphasize ergonomic research in their flagship models. For consumers, the outcome reinforces the idea that the cheapest option isn’t always the worst—fit can outweigh flagship specs. As the market tightens, future releases will probably focus more on customizable tips and adaptive shapes, ensuring that comfort stays front and centre in the next generation of true‑wireless audio.
