Microsoft Teams added four new productivity tools in a midโ2025 update, giving its more than 320โฏmillion monthly users a timer for meetings, AIโdriven voice isolation, a way to locate unfinished messages and a feature that lets participants rewind short sections of a call. The rollout arrives as the platform continues to evolve beyond basic chat and video, aiming to smooth the daily grind of remote work.
The changes come as remote and hybrid work remain the norm for many companies. Managers and employees alike have complained about meetings that run over lunch, background noise that distracts, and moments when a conversation slips by unnoticed. Microsoftโs engineers say the new tools respond directly to those pain points, offering builtโin ways to keep sessions on schedule, improve audio quality and recover missed content without leaving the app.
The meeting timer appears when a host clicks โMoreโ and selects โTimerโ in the top toolbar. Users can set it for up to 100โฏminutes; the countdown shows in the corner for all presenters and turns red as time runs out. It works only for scheduled meetings, not live events or adโhoc calls. Voice isolation uses a quick AI profile that users create in SettingsโฏโโฏRecognition. After reading a short paragraph, the system filters out background sounds, and a dropdown next to the microphone lets speakers toggle the feature on or off during a call. A new โFind unfinished messageโ button scans chat history for drafts left unsent, while a โRewindโ control lets participants jump back up to five minutes to catch a missed point, a function that records a short buffer of the ongoing call.
Analysts expect the features to boost Teamsโ appeal in a crowded collaboration market. Early feedback shows users appreciate the visual timer for keeping agendas tight and the noiseโcancelling option for home offices. As more organisations adopt hybrid schedules, the ability to retrieve lost remarks or replay a snippet could become a standard expectation. Microsoft says it will continue refining these tools based on user data, hinting at longer rewind windows and broader AI enhancements in future updates.
