Voters in Connecticut and Vermont will head to the polls on Tuesday to participate in key primary elections, while Alabama will conduct special primary elections in four congressional districts. In Connecticut, residents will select candidates for congressional representation and the governorship. In Alabama, the primaries are prompted by a new congressional map that reduces the number of majority-Black districts from two to one.

The Connecticut Democratic primary for governor is particularly notable, as incumbent Ned Lamont seeks a third term against state Representative Josh Elliott, who has positioned himself as a progressive challenger. Elliott argues that Lamont's administration has favored wealthy interests and advocates for higher taxes on the state's wealthiest residents to enhance public services and affordability. The governor has enjoyed favorable job approval ratings, which may help him maintain his lead in the primary despite Elliott's criticisms.

Polling places in Connecticut will open as early as 6 a.m. and close no earlier than 8 p.m., with any voter in line by closing time allowed to cast their ballot. Recent surveys indicate that Lamont holds a significant advantage over Elliott, bolstered by voter satisfaction with the state's fiscal management. The winner of this primary will face Republican state Senator Ryan Fazio in the general election.

In Vermont, the primary elections also carry considerable significance. Voters will choose between two Republican candidates, Mark Coester and Gerald Malloy, who aim to challenge Democratic Representative Becca Balint in the upcoming election. Additionally, Democrats are vying for nominations for lieutenant governor and state auditor. Notably, two Democrats are competing to challenge incumbent Republican Governor Phil Scott, with Amanda Janoo and Aly Richards in the race. Richards has received endorsements from prominent former governors, adding weight to her campaign.
