Wagner Moura has compared his new Netflix thriller *The Last House* to the hope he felt that “the world was gonna change” after coming out of COVID isolation.

Speaking to Deadline, the Brazilian actor and director reflected on the film’s ending while trapped at home during lockdown. He said the isolation of pandemic days helped shape his view of the movie’s twist. The film, directed by Louis Leterrier, hit Netflix last week and is now streaming globally.

*The Last House* follows a family torn apart by a home invasion gone wrong. Moura plays one of the attackers, and the story culminates in a brutal confrontation. The film’s ending, which Moura called “a moment of truth,” mirrors the uncertainty many felt as society re-emerged from lockdown. He said it reminded him of the fragile optimism that followed years of isolation—when people hoped for real societal change but were met with harsh realities.

The actor, best known for *Narcos* and *Elysium*, hasn’t directed a feature since 2014’s *Rio, I Love You*. *The Last House* marks his return, and he’s already eyeing his next project. With Netflix expanding its grip on global audiences, Moura’s film adds another dark, character-driven thriller to the platform’s growing slate. Whether it sparks real-world conversation—or just a late-night binge—remains to be seen. But for Moura, the timing feels right. After years of waiting, he’s ready to push boundaries again.
