Uber and Zipline launch drone delivery service through Uber Eats

Uber Technologies announced a partnership with drone delivery company Zipline on Monday, aiming to expand drone logistics across the United States. The first deployments of this service on Uber Eats are set to begin later this year. Financial details of the partnership, including the amount of Uber's investment in Zipline, have not been disclosed.

This partnership comes as the demand for faster delivery options continues to rise. Uber and Zipline have set a bold goal: to achieve one million drone deliveries per day by the end of 2029. Zipline already has a proven track record, having completed over 2.7 million deliveries of more than 20 million items across four continents. Its drones have flown 135 million autonomous miles, serving more than 5,000 hospitals and contributing to an estimated 12,000 lives saved each year.

Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber, emphasized the importance of this collaboration, stating, "Together, we're shaping the future of delivery by creating a faster, more sustainable way for people to get what they need." This partnership signals a significant shift in how food and essential items may be delivered in the future, utilizing advanced technology to enhance efficiency.

Uber's stock saw a slight increase following the announcement, with shares rising by 0.82% to $76.54. As drone delivery becomes more prevalent, it could reshape the logistics industry and consumer expectations regarding delivery times.
