WildBear Entertainment appoints Jane McAllister as CEO amid industry changes
WildBear Entertainment has restructured its senior management team to better navigate significant changes in the entertainment industry, appointing Jane McAllister as CEO and enhancing its focus on iโฆ
Australian factual producer WildBear Entertainment announced on Tuesday that it has reorganised its senior management team, creating an eightโperson leadership group to steer the company through what it calls โthe biggest transformation weโve seen in decadesโ in the entertainment industry. The reshuffle places veteran producer Jane McAllister as chief executive, adds a new head of international sales, and promotes two longโtime staffers to oversee content development and technology integration.
The move comes as the global market for documentary and factual series is being reshaped by streaming platforms, dataโdriven commissioning and the rise of generativeโAI tools that can speed up research and editing. WildBear, best known for the awardโwinning series โStuff The British Stole,โ โRise of the Dictatorsโ and โEvery Little Thing,โ has seen its output double in the past three years, but its investors warned that the pace of change could outstrip traditional production models. Industry analysts note that audiences now expect highโquality factual content on demand, and that producers must adapt quickly to new distribution deals and tighter budgets.
The new team includes McAllister, who spent a decade leading factual commissions at the BBC before returning to Australia, and Alex Tan, a former Netflix acquisitions executive appointed as head of international sales. Tan said the restructuring will allow WildBear to โmove faster on coโproduction deals and bring our stories to more markets.โ The company also hired dataโscience lead Dr. Priya Nair to embed AIโassisted research into the development pipeline. In a brief statement, WildBearโs board chair, Michael Reed, praised the changes as โa decisive step to keep our brand at the forefront of factual storytelling.โ
WildBear plans to roll out the new structure over the next quarter, targeting a slate of six new series for both local broadcasters and global streaming services. The firm will pilot AIโdriven content scouting tools on its upcoming โRise of the Dictatorsโ sequel and explore joint ventures with European partners. If the reshuffle delivers the promised agility, WildBear could set a benchmark for midโsize producers navigating the fastโevolving factual market.
