SoundHound AI (NASDAQ:SOUN) , a voice AI platform for enterprise and automotive conversational experiences, closed at $7.08, up 10.11%. The stock surged after record quarterly revenue, a smaller-than-expected loss, and raised full-year guidance; investors are watching management commentary on revenue, margins, and the LivePerson acquisition. Trading volume reached 88.0M shares, coming in about 187% above its three-month average of 30.7M shares. SoundHound AI IPO'd in 2022 and has fallen 6% since going public.
The S&P 500 (SNPINDEX:^GSPC) fell 0.16% to 7,711, and the Nasdaq Composite (NASDAQINDEX:^IXIC) slipped 0.06% to 26,348. Among conversational AI software and voice technology peers, Cerence (NASDAQ:CRNC) closed at $9.02, down 2.17%, while SoundHound AI outperformed sector rivals during Thursday's session.
It was a good day for SoundHound AI investors as the stock blew past analystsโ expectations for the second quarter. Sales rose 45% in Q2, and the companyโs adjusted net income margin improved from -28% to -15%, as margins continued to improve quickly. Management also raised sales guidance to $245 million at the midpoint for 2026, excluding the potential closing of its LivePerson acquisition, which would, if closed, expand its omnichannel messaging capabilities.
While SoundHound still needs to rein in stock-based compensation (SBC) over time โ SBC still equals a whopping 45% of sales โ the company continues to land new contracts across a wide array of customer verticals, including financial services, restaurants, healthcare, telecos, retail, and, of course, autos. Trading at roughly 11 times forward sales, SoundHound isnโt outrageously priced if it can continue to experience the hyper-growth it has seen over the last five years and keep improving its margins steadily.
That said, SoundHound will remain a volatile option for investors , and it is yet to be determined just how wide a moat the company has, if any, so interested investors should buy in small batches over time, rather than going โall-inโ today.
