Solo GP Jed Breed has raised $15 million for his second earlyโstage crypto fund, according to The Block. The fund, named Breed VC, will focus on earlyโstage protocols, infrastructure projects, and tokenized assets, with a lean team that keeps decisionโmaking fast.
The move comes after a sharp contraction in crypto venture capital during 2022, when many funds shut down or paused new commitments. Breedโs first fund, launched in 2021, raised $10โฏmillion and backed a handful of DeFi and Web3 projects that have since grown in scale. By bringing in a modest second fund, Breed signals that the market is still fertile for highโupside bets, especially in areas that can benefit from the new regulatory clarity emerging in the United States and Europe.
Key backers include FalconX, a crypto derivatives trading firm, and prominent investors Nic Carter, Rob Hadick and Jake Brukhman. FalconXโs involvement adds liquidity expertise, while Carterโs track record in early crypto investments provides credibility. Hadick, a former Twitter executive, brings deep techโindustry experience, and Brukhmanโs venture background rounds out a wellโbalanced syndicate that can support both capital and strategic guidance for portfolio companies.
Going forward, Breed will begin sourcing deals in Q3, targeting projects that can scale quickly and have defensible technology. The fundโs structure allows it to deploy capital rapidly, with a focus on seed and Series A rounds. Breed plans to publish a portfolio of investments by yearโend, and he has indicated a willingness to coโinvest with other earlyโstage funds to share risk. The $15โฏmillion fund, while modest compared to larger crypto funds, reflects a targeted strategy that could yield outsized returns if the chosen projects hit their milestones. The move also underscores a broader trend of smaller, nimble funds reโentering the market as confidence returns to earlyโstage crypto ventures.
