Russell wins Dutch GP sprint from pole position

Mercedes' George Russell led from start to finish to win the sprint race at the Dutch Grand Prix.

Russell led a train of four cars for the entirety of the race but was always able to keep his pursuers at arm's length.

Ferrari's Charles Leclerc passed McLaren's Lando Norris with six laps to go to take second ahead of the world champion, who fended off a late attack from Mercedes' Kimi Antonelli.

Russell's win cuts his deficit in the championship to Antonelli to 56 points, with Lewis Hamilton in second place.

The seven-time champion, who finished seventh behind McLaren's Oscar Piastri and Red Bull's Max Verstappen, is three points ahead of Russell in the championship.

Russell was in control of the race throughout. Norris followed him closely in the opening phases, often within a second of the Mercedes and looking quicker.

But after eight laps Norris radioed his team to say he had no rear grip and he began to lose time to the Mercedes and fall back into the clutches of Leclerc.
