Netflix announced that its new original drama “Sunshine Girls” will premiere on its platform in early 2025, and it also revealed that the short‑form series “Minimum Wage” will be expanded into a full‑length streaming series. “Sunshine Girls” follows a group of high‑school friends in a small Texas town as they navigate love, ambition and the town’s hidden secrets. The series will be released as a 10‑episode limited series, with the first episode dropping on January 15, 2025. “Minimum Wage,” originally a set of 30‑minute shorts that aired on Netflix’s now‑discontinued Shorts hub, will be re‑edited into a 60‑minute feature‑length episode, with a release slated for March 1, 2025.

The move comes as Netflix continues to shift its content strategy toward longer, binge‑able formats after the Shorts initiative was paused in 2023. The streaming giant is investing heavily in original series to keep subscribers engaged amid fierce competition from Disney+, HBO Max and Amazon Prime. By repackaging popular short content into full‑length episodes, Netflix can capitalize on existing fan bases while offering more depth and character development. The decision also reflects a broader industry trend of turning micro‑content into larger narratives to increase watch time and ad revenue from its ad‑supported tier.

“Minimum Wage” centers on a group of friends who work low‑pay jobs in a big city, highlighting the challenges and camaraderie that come with budget constraints. The series features a diverse cast, including rising stars Maya Rodriguez and Keisha Thomas, and is written by former “Brooklyn Nine‑Nine” writer Alex Kim. Netflix said the new format will allow the story to explore the characters’ backstories and future aspirations in greater detail. Early reactions from fan forums have been positive, with viewers praising the show’s humor and social commentary. Netflix’s head of original programming, Sara Patel, said the company is “excited to bring more authentic stories to our global audience.”

Netflix plans to launch a targeted marketing campaign for both series, including behind‑the‑scenes videos, social media challenges and collaborations with influencers. The company will also roll out “Sunshine Girls” on its international markets in February, while “Minimum
