Meta unveils Muse Charm AI device and camera-free AR glasses

Meta unveiled a line of AI‑powered hardware on Tuesday, headlined by the Muse Charm, a palm‑sized device built to run its new Muse AI assistant, and a pair of camera‑free AR glasses that it says will launch later this year. The announcements came at Meta’s “AI Futures” event in Menlo Park and were presented by chief product officer Chris Cox. The Muse Charm will sit on a desk or be carried in a pocket and respond to voice prompts, while the glasses will overlay text and simple graphics without any outward‑facing cameras.

The rollout follows months of pressure on Meta to monetize its growing AI investments. The company has spent billions on large language models and has been rolling out AI features across Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. Earlier this year it introduced the Meta Quest 3 headset, and the camera‑free glasses are meant to complement that ecosystem by offering a lighter, everyday wearable. Analysts say the move is an attempt to catch up with rivals like Apple, which is expected to launch its own AI‑enabled headset, and Google, which is expanding its Pixel AI hardware. Meta’s recent earnings showed a slowdown in ad revenue, prompting the firm to diversify its product line.

Industry observers expect the Muse Charm to ship in the fourth quarter at a price between $150 and $200, though Meta has not confirmed exact figures. The glasses are slated for a limited beta later this year, with broader availability in 2025. Developers will receive a software kit in September, allowing them to build voice‑first apps for the Charm and AR experiences for the glasses. If the devices gain traction, they could open a new revenue stream for Meta and reshape how users interact with its AI services.
