Authorities in Kosovo have identified a third potential mass grave site linked to suspected war crimes from the 1998-99 Kosovo War. This announcement follows the discovery of remains at a second site earlier this week. Investigators are now preparing to begin excavation at the new site, which officials believe may contain additional remains of victims from the conflict.

The ongoing investigations come in the wake of heightened efforts to uncover the truth about the war, which resulted in the deaths of over 10,000 people, predominantly ethnic Albanians. More than 1,600 individuals remain missing, prompting authorities to intensify their search. Excavation efforts began last week in Zubin Potok and have since expanded, with officials estimating that as many as 23 people could be buried in that area alone. The remains uncovered so far have been sent for DNA testing, but officials caution that identification could take several months.

Kosovo's acting President Albulena Haxhiu emphasized the importance of these discoveries, stating that each identified grave serves as a stark reminder of the atrocities committed during the war. In a social media post, she called for international condemnation of Serbia's alleged attempts to conceal the truth about missing individuals and intimidate witnesses. Her comments reflect ongoing tensions between Kosovo and Serbia, as both nations grapple with the legacy of the conflict.

In a related development, Kosovo police have arrested three local men on suspicion of war crimes. Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti indicated that the remains discovered are likely those of 23 Albanians who were abducted and executed during the conflict. The continued search for remains underscores the enduring impact of the war and the need for accountability for those responsible for the violence.
