Hashkey Group has joined the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporationโ€™s (DTCC) working group on tokenization innovation, becoming the first Asian cryptocurrency service provider to take part in the initiative alongside more than 100 major financial institutions.

The move signals a step toward broader institutional adoption of blockchain-based asset tokenization. Tokenization turns real-world assetsโ€”like stocks, bonds, or real estateโ€”into digital tokens on a blockchain, making them easier to trade and settle. The DTCC, which processes trillions of dollars in securities transactions daily, has been exploring how distributed ledger technology could streamline post-trade processes.

Hashkeyโ€™s inclusion is significant because it represents a bridge between traditional finance and crypto in Asia, a region where regulatory clarity and institutional buy-in have been evolving. The firm operates in Hong Kong and Singapore, two cities positioning themselves as crypto-friendly financial hubs. Its participation may help shape standards for how tokenized assets are cleared, settled, and governed across borders.

What happens next could accelerate the development of tokenized markets. The working group, which includes banks like Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan, is expected to publish findings and pilot programs that test tokenized versions of traditional assets. If successful, these efforts could lead to faster settlement times, lower costs, and new investment products. For Hashkey, the move reinforces its role as a key player in Asiaโ€™s digital asset ecosystem and could pave the way for more Asian firms to join global tokenization initiatives.
