Berkshire Hathaway reported Saturday morning that its stock hit a 52-week high at $525, yet it remains up only 4.5% for the year compared to the S&P 500’s 13% gain. The company’s latest 10-Q filing, released just before 7 a.m. Central time, marked another quarter under CEO Greg Abel, who took over on January 1 while Warren Buffett stayed on as chairman.

This quarter’s filing is the second since Abel’s leadership began, and it arrives amid a flurry of activity. In March, Berkshire repurchased $234 million of its own stock—its first buybacks under the new CEO. The company also completed an $8.5 billion acquisition of homebuilder Taylor Morrison in late July, a deal Abel called a step toward building a unified site-built homebuilding operation. First-quarter operating earnings rose 18% year over year to $11.3 billion, but the focus will be on whether buybacks continue and how the Taylor Morrison deal reshapes Berkshire’s balance sheet.

The filing will include the stock buyback table for April through June, revealing whether March’s $234 million purchase was a one-time move or the start of a sustained program. Berkshire’s cash and Treasury bills stood at $397 billion heading into the quarter, giving Abel significant firepower for future deals. The report will also show the number of shares outstanding as of late July, extending the snapshot past the quarter’s end.

Investors will scrutinize the data to see how Abel is steering Berkshire in his early months. The stock’s recent high suggests confidence, but its lag behind the S&P 500 highlights the challenge of outperforming broader markets. With no earnings call or presentation, Saturday’s filing is the sole update—but it could signal whether Berkshire is poised for more aggressive moves under its new leader.
