When Google announced its Wear OS 7 update , it teased an update to the wearable Gemini app that’ll introduce a new design language the company is calling Neural Expressive. In the context of Gemini on Wear OS in particular, Neural Expressive entails a new gradient effect that can be displayed over top of your watch face when you’re talking to the AI assistant. That visual update began rolling out to Pixel Watch models last week, and now, it looks like it’s hitting non-Google wearables, too.

Android Authority ‘s Tushar Mehta has confirmed that the new look for Gemini has reached his own first-generation Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra running Wear OS 6 (or One UI 8 Watch, in Samsung parlance). Predictably, the Neural Expressive overlay looks the same on Galaxy Watch as it does Pixel Watch.

Tushar says the overlay appears over the Galaxy Watch Ultra’s watch face when activated via the Hey Google hotword. Invoking Gemini by pressing and holding the watch’s Home button opens the Gemini app, though, with the same gradient effect displayed over a plain black background.

At the same time it previewed this new look for wearable Gemini, Google announced that Gemini Intelligence features — the option to have the AI carry out some more complex digital tasks on your behalf — would be making their way to select smartwatches running Wear OS 7. We still haven’t seen those features on Pixel Watch. The visual refresh didn’t bring new functionality to Tushar’s Galaxy Watch Ultra, either. Given his watch is still on Wear OS 6, we wouldn’t have expected to see Gemini Intelligence here anyway.

Even if they don’t land with any new functionality, the new visuals are pretty snazzy. These updated graphics are evidently enabled server-side and are not tied to any specific app version. If you’ve got a Pixel Watch or Galaxy Watch, keep an eye out for the update coming soon.
