GE Vernova Holds an $176 Billion Backlog, Yet Wall Street Is Selling: What Investors Should Know.

GE Vernovaโ€™s stock slipped 5% last month even as the broader market rose, despite the energy-tech spin-off boasting a $176 billion order backlog. The company, which debuted as an independent business in 2024, saw its shares jump from $143 to nearly $1,000 in under two years on bets tied to the AI and cloud boom. Yet the latest pullback shows that even blockbuster demand canโ€™t fully offset Wall Streetโ€™s growing skepticism about lofty valuations.

The companyโ€™s rapid ascent reflects its central role in powering data centers, factories, and grids as AI workloads explode. Orders surged 37% in the second quarter alone, led by a 51% jump in its Power segment and a 23% lift in Electrification. But investors are now questioning whether the stock has priced in too much of that future growth. GE Vernova trades at a premium, and the slightest hiccupโ€”like missing earnings targets or higher-than-expected costsโ€”can trigger a sell-off.

Behind the numbers, GE Vernovaโ€™s business is split across three divisions. Power makes turbines for gas, coal, and nuclear plants, while Electrification supplies transformers, substations, and grid automation tools. The Wind segment lags, hurt by supply chain snags and slowing turbine demand. Still, overall orders grew 89% in the first half of 2026, driven by utilities racing to expand infrastructure for AI and cloud computing. Analysts expect full-year revenue to rise 19%โ€“22%, with profit margins expanding as spending on capacity ramps up.

The latest dip came after GE Vernovaโ€™s second-quarter report missed Wall Streetโ€™s profit forecasts, partly due to higher costs and losses in its Wind business. With a $255 billion enterprise value, the stock is still priced for perfectionโ€”and any sign of strain can drag it lower. For now, long-term investors betting on the AI-driven energy transition see the pullback as a buying opportunity. But the marketโ€™s message is clear: even a $176 billion backlog wonโ€™t shield GE Vernova if growth stalls or costs spiral.
