Leeds abandon bid for 12-goal Liverpool striker Ben Woodburn

English Championship side Leeds United have withdrawn from the chase to sign Liverpool striker Ben Woodburn.

The 25-year-old has scored 12 goals this season and remains in contract until 2025. Leeds had been monitoring Woodburn for weeks after he impressed on loan at Rangers last season. But the Yorkshire club have now decided the asking price is too high, sources told Yahoo Sports.

Liverpool have made it clear they want to sell Woodburn this summer. The club sees him as surplus to requirements after signing Luis Diaz and Dominik Szoboszlai in the January window. Woodburn is also behind Darwin Núñez, Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo in the pecking order. He has struggled to get regular minutes under Jürgen Klopp and has been linked with moves to Turkey and Saudi Arabia before Leeds emerged as a potential Premier League destination.

Woodburn’s future now hangs in the balance. Liverpool are unlikely to lower their valuation, which is reported to be around £15million. Leeds have turned to other targets instead, including former Liverpool youth player Harvey Elliott on loan. Woodburn could still force a move if he forces his way out, but for now it looks like his Anfield career will end without him making a single first-team appearance.
