Crypto Traders Are Pairing Meme Coins With Stocks on Robinhoodโ€”And It's Working (Sort Of)

A meme coin called BONER has bought up half of Hims & Hers Healthโ€™s tokenized shares on Robinhoodโ€™s new blockchain, sparking a trend that traders are pairing meme coins with stocks. The move happened last week on the platformโ€™s โ€œTokenized Securitiesโ€ feature, where shares of a company are issued as digital tokens that can be traded like crypto. BONER, a jokeโ€‘laden coin that once traded for a few cents, now holds a large portion of the tokenized stock.

The trend matters because it shows how quickly retail traders are blending two markets that used to stay separate. Robinhood launched the tokenization service to let users buy fractional shares and trade them as tokens, hoping to attract crypto fans. Meanwhile, meme coins have exploded in popularity, driven by social media hype and low entry costs. By pairing the two, traders can bet on a companyโ€™s future while riding the volatility of a meme coin, creating new speculative opportunities.

Hims & Hers Health is a telehealth company that went public in 2023. Its stock has hovered around $20 a share, but the tokenized version trades on a blockchain that adds a 0.5% fee for every trade. BONERโ€™s holders own enough tokens to control about 50 percent of the available shares, meaning they can influence voting rights and earnings distributions if the tokens are fully transferable. Robinhood has said it monitors for manipulation, but regulators are still unsure how to handle tokenized securities. The move has drawn attention from the SEC, which is reviewing how blockchain can affect market integrity.

If the pairing trend grows, it could blur the line between crypto speculation and traditional equity investing. More traders might start buying meme coins to gain exposure to highโ€‘growth stocks, or vice versa. Robinhood could roll out more tokenized listings, and other brokerages might follow. Regulators may tighten rules on tokenized securities, especially if they see a rise in manipulation or fraud. The next few months will show whether this hybrid trading model stays a niche experiment or becomes a mainstream strategy for retail investors.
