Burnham to tell MPs optimism at heart of his vision for UK

Andy Burnham will say a "sense of optimism" is at the heart of his vision about Britain's future, in his first Commons statement as prime minister on Tuesday.

The prime minister's statement will focus on two areas which he will say are central to his vision for growth: firstly establishing stronger public control of essential services.

The second aspect is decentralising power - in particular No 10 North, the new government unit based in Manchester, which he will argue is fundamentally reshaping how the country is run.

He will promise to "unlock a feeling of positivity and possibility" in every part of the country.
