Chilean artist Akriila has unveiled an exclusive playlist in conjunction with her feature in NME's The Cover, which highlights her upcoming album, ‘Lucy Miró Al Mundo Y Notó Que Está Girando, Es Mi Segundo Disco.’ The release comes as anticipation builds for her second record, set to explore themes of personal growth and self-discovery.
The album's English title translates to ‘Lucy Looked At The World, And Noticed That It’s Spinning,’ reflecting a transformative journey. Akriila describes the creative process as a response to the chaos of life, referencing the Ukrainian artist shelestvetrovki's series ‘She Is So Hot I Wanna Clean Her Room’ to explain the album's concept. She notes how moments of clarity emerge amid the messiness of self-reflection, suggesting a need for a “ray of light” to understand the broader world.
Her exclusive playlist, titled ‘Lucy Is The New Hopecore,’ features a blend of contemporary artists like Bassvictim, Corridos Ketamina, and collaborator Jane Remover, along with influences from iconic musicians such as PJ Harvey and The Beatles. The playlist serves as both a preview of her new sound and a nod to her artistic inspirations. So far, Akriila has released three singles from the album: ‘Partedemipartedeti,’ ‘Roger,’ and ‘Suave,’ which features Jane Remover.
In her interview with NME, Akriila reflects on her formative years in Santiago, navigating challenges like the pandemic and social unrest. She describes her journey of self-discovery through music, emphasizing the role of Auto-Tune in her recordings. “It’s a filter, an effect, but it filters something real,” she explains, highlighting her desire to create playful characters in her work. As the music industry eyes her upcoming release, Akriila stands poised to make a significant impact with her unique voice and vision.
