Activists deliver aid to Palestinian families besieged by settlers in Qusra

Activists attempted to deliver humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Qusra, a village in the occupied West Bank, who have been trapped in their homes by Israeli settlers since Sunday. The group left food and water outside the besieged homes of two families, whose access to power and water has been cut off. However, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) denied allegations that they had prevented aid from reaching the families directly.

The situation escalated when Israeli settlers blocked the road leading to the homes and disrupted essential services. Qusra Mayor Abdul Azim Wadi reported that Israeli forces have been using some abandoned Palestinian houses as military barracks. Tensions in the area have been high, particularly after an attempt by Israeli security forces to remove settlers led to confrontations, with security camera footage showing clashes involving tear gas and stun grenades.

On the same day as the aid attempt, settlers returned to the area and briefly set up a tent, which was later removed by Israeli soldiers. The IDF claimed the area is a "closed military zone," asserting that while Israeli civilians could not enter, they were not barred from transferring aid to Palestinian homes. The IDF also described the settlers' actions as "deplorable," promising investigations into their conduct.

This incident is part of a broader trend of increasing violence by settlers in the West Bank. Settlements, which are deemed illegal under international law, have been expanding rapidly with the support of the Israeli government. Since the beginning of 2023, 127 Palestinian communities have reported severe disruptions to their daily lives due to settler aggression. The ongoing conflict highlights the challenges faced by Israeli forces in addressing settler violence and raises questions about the safety and rights of Palestinian residents in the area.
